The Utah Jazz do not intend to make Lauri Markkanen available in trade discussions, sources tell ESPN's Tim MacMahon. The Jazz have continued to get younger this offseason by trading John Collins and Collin Sexton while also buying out Jordan Clarkson.
Utah continues to project Markkanen as a key part of their future core after signing him to a five-year, $238 million renegotiate-and-extend contract during the 2024 offseason. The Jazz did listen to trade offers for Markkanen before they finalized an extension.
With the Jazz requiring a massive trade package to Markkanen after he had a disappointing 2024-25 season, it is unlikely any teams would be interested in meeting their asking price when also factoring in the size of his contract.
Markkanen just turned 28 in May and averaged 19.0 points, 5.9 rebounds and 1.5 assists last season while posting a True Shooting Percentage of just .571 compared to over .630 each of the previous two seasons. Markkanen was an All-Star in 2023 when he had his breakout season after joining the Jazz as part of the Donovan Mitchell trade.

Good for Markkanen. He will always get to play half of the games then start sitting down in tank mode for Jazz.

Gets a max deal while only needing to play half the season. Talk about a sweet gig.
Markkanen making 30% of the cap really isn’t that attractive to most teams. At this point Ainge just needs to suck it up and maximize Markkanen in hopes he can find his breakout mojo again. It’s the only way to get his trade value up again.

I always assume, "X team not interested in trading Y player" means X team is interested in trading Y player.
If not, why would it be news?
The "not interested" is just a way of saying, "We won't give him away for nothing."
I could be wrong in this case, but that's always my first assumption when I see this kind of headline.
It can also be that a team isn't interested yet; I lost track of how many headlines I saw saying the Rockets weren't interested in trading Jalen Green.

That's a reverse psychology post if I've ever seen one. "Hey guys, we're definitely not trading our overpriced forward who may hurt our chances to get a good draft pick! Definitely don't make us good offers for him!"

People who think know about basketball go any forum to show their low kmowledge.
Many times not taking a decision is much better than taking a bad decision.
Markannen and Kesler are good players to build over a teen with future.
Why trading them?
No reason whatsoever.
The article is not giving an opinion or saying that the Jazz did not want to trade him because the offers were low. The Jazz have been saying for months that they would trade Markannen only if an overwhelming offer arrived...
