Jaylen was not overpaid. He earned the contract. The rules shifted and the team dynamic shifted which make his contract undesirable for BOSTON.. But that doesn't mean he's overpaid.

Bad take on this article.

Excellent article. You have nailed it particularly with the last line that a player being eligible for a max contract does not make them worth a max contract. The agents have been saying max or bust and the GMs have generally fallen for it. It is changing. Look at the Knicks, Look at Wemby. Jaylen Brown is overpaid. That’s why he got traded for a low return, partial salary dump. That was the market talking. Luca got traded at least partially because his new max demand was too much and when traded his new team has a lower max. It’s a really complicated formula to put talent on the court. Some teams are doing it better than others. By the way teams do have a choice with different ramifications. They can make a choice to bust the second apron.
