\'Mountain Gets Bigger\' For Yankees After Collapse Against Marlins

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Mon Aug 14, 2023 11:36 am

The New York Yankees sit in last place in the American League East with seven weeks left in the regular season.

Sunday\'s ninth-inning collapse against the Miami Marlins certainly didn\'t help the club\'s playoff chances.

The Marlins scored five runs in the final inning to record an 8-7 victory.

\"The mountain gets bigger with every loss,\" Yankees reliever Clay Holmes said. \"We have to put together some wins and string them together and get some momentum going.\"

New York led 7-1 in the sixth inning thanks to a strong outing from Gerrit Cole, but still dropped five games back of the AL\'s last wild-card berth.

\"Difficult way to end the series, but we\'ve got to move on,\" Aaron Boone said. \"We know we have to rack up wins, and as tough as this one is to swallow, you have to move on from it.\"
