In a recent interview, former Miami Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria says Derek Jeter \"destroyed\" the team\'s ballpark during his tenure with the club.
Loria took issue with Jeter\'s decision to get rid of a sculpture that erupted whenever the Marlins hit a home run or won a game.
\"Destroying public art was a horrible thing to do,\" Loria said.
Loria\'s friend, artist Red Grooms, designed the home run sculpture as part of a $2.5 million contract with Miami-Dade County.
The former owner also said that he wasn\'t a fan of some of the other changes that Jeter made to the ballpark during his time in the Marlins front office.
\"I was fastidious about all the color we put into the building and it was changed; it didn\'t have to be changed,\" Loria said.
\"They covered up all the [colorful] tiles, which we brought in from Europe. To me it reflected the culture of Miami. Now it\'s all blue. It\'s ridiculous. The amenities like the fish tanks behind home plate -- they were there for the kids -- and they got rid of them. It\'s silly.\"
