Yankees President Shames Marlins, Rays Over Revenue Sharing

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Mon Oct 16, 2023 12:29 pm

New York Yankees president Randy Levine criticized the Miami Marlins and the Tampa Bay Rays\' reliance on receiving revenue sharing money from larger-market clubs during a panel at Sportico\'s Invest in Sports conference.

\"A lot more focus has to be on individual teams to do better and not just rely on revenue sharing,\" Levine said. \"You can\'t have two Florida teams averaging 15,000 fans. You can\'t have it. You don\'t go into an NFL stadium or an NBA arena and see that.

\"And I think that there\'s been a dependency issue that\'s got to get better. ... The commissioner has done an incredible job, but now it\'s on individual teams. Instead of complaining and whining, \'We need more money,\' you got to take some responsibility.\"

Just hanging on until some billionaire offers them gobs of money to move to a different city. And when that happens, the 'fans' will deserve to have lost those teams.

Yeah MLB isn't going to do ****. They are actively supporting this revenue sharing model, with the A's move to Vegas being a shining example. With the A's moving from one of the countries largest markets to one that ranks somewhere in the 40's, they're effectively guaranteeing revenue sharing to fill their accounts for years to come, and MLB/the other owners are supporting it. Nevada offered to subsidize the A's owners with tax money, while the MLB will subsidize the A's revenue via revenue sharing, and none of the other owners would ever want to deprive themselves of such a financial opportunity in the future. But the end result is you get teams like the A's Marlins, Rays, etc effectively getting paid just for participating in the league. :nonono:
