The Texas Rangers have spent openly in recent years, but the club may be looking to dip below the luxury tax threshold next season.
The team has paid luxury tax the last two years.
According to a report, one of owner Ray Davis\' top priorities this winter is to duck under the $241 million tax threshold in order to reset the team\'s penalty level.
The tax threshold climbs every season -- at predetermined levels stipulated in the collective bargaining agreement -- and carries escalating penalties for teams that cross the tax barrier in consecutive seasons.
The free spending has worked for the Rangers, who won the 2023 World Series.
