The trade market for Nolan Arenado appears to not have moved despite the long anticipated signing of Alex Bregman. Because Bregman signed with the Boston Red Sox, where there was also mutual interest with Arenado, the St. Louis Cardinals may be stuck with him heading into the season.
Arenado is now unlikely to be traded unless there is a major injury to a team where he would approve a trade. The Toronto Blue Jays and Seattle Mariners are considered the teams that would make the most sense for Arenado, but he is unlikely to approve a trade to either destination.
“If the market was big, he’d already have been gone,” said one rival exec, “because I know the Cardinals were absolutely actively looking to deal him.”
