Yankees Acquire Ryan McMahon From Rockies For Third Base Upgrade

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Fri Jul 25, 2025 7:44 pm

The New York Yankees acquired third baseman Ryan McMahon from the Colorado Rockies in exchange for minor league pitchers Griffin Herring and Josh Grosz, sources confirmed to ESPN on Friday. The trade addresses the Yankees\' struggles at third base while adding Gold Glove-caliber defense.

New York assumed the remainder of McMahon\'s contract, including approximately $4.5 million for 2025 and $32 million over the next two seasons. The 30-year-old All-Star is batting .217 with 16 home runs and a .717 OPS in 100 games this season.

McMahon represents a significant offensive upgrade over Oswald Peraza, who has manned third base since DJ LeMahieu\'s release earlier this month. Peraza is slashing .147/.208/.237 with a 24 wRC+ that ranks last among 310 qualified hitters this season.

McMahon\'s four Outs Above Average ranks third among major league third basemen this season. The Gold Glove-caliber defender joins a Yankees team that committed four errors in Wednesday\'s loss to the first-place Toronto Blue Jays.

The former Rockies star has homered in recent games and remains on pace to extend his four-year streak of 20-homer seasons. His 92 OPS+ indicates below-average offensive production but still provides substantial improvement at the position.

Colorado received Herring, a 22-year-old who posted a 1.71 ERA across 16 starts between Low-A and High-A levels. The LSU product was selected in the sixth round of the 2024 draft.
