Kyle Schwarber and the Philadelphia Phillies have finalized a five-year, $150 million contract, sources told ESPN on Tuesday. The deal reunites the National League home run leader with the franchise where he emerged as a perennial MVP candidate.
Schwarber, 32, received significant interest from the New York Mets, Boston Red Sox, Baltimore Orioles, Pittsburgh Pirates, and his hometown Cincinnati Reds during free agency. Philadelphia\'s late push secured the designated hitter a rare long-term deal at $30 million annually.
The three-time All-Star finished second in MVP voting last season after hitting .240/.365/.563 with 56 home runs and an NL-leading 132 RBIs. He played all 162 games for the first time in his career and became the 21st player in MLB history to hit four home runs in a game.
Schwarber has hit at least 38 home runs in each of his four seasons with Philadelphia since joining the team on a four-year, $79 million deal in 2022. He posted 14 home runs across 38 postseason games with the Phillies, including six during their 2022 World Series run.
Beyond his production, Schwarber is regarded as a clubhouse leader and highly respected figure throughout baseball. The Phillies made re-signing him their clear priority after losing to the Los Angeles Dodgers in the division series.
With Alex Bregman and Pete Alonso changing teams, multiple contenders pursued Schwarber aggressively. Baltimore made a strong push, while Pittsburgh offered a high-dollar four-year deal that would have more than tripled its previous largest free agent contract.
The signing retains Philadelphia\'s formidable top of the order alongside Trea Turner and Bryce Harper. The Phillies won the NL East for the second consecutive season in 2025, posting the second-most wins in MLB before their playoff elimination.
