Yankees Turn Just Second Triple Play Since 1969

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Sat Apr 13, 2013 3:45 pm

The New York Yankees turned a triple play in their victory over the Baltimore Orioles on Friday night.

With runners on first and second, Manny Machado hit a sharp liner that second baseman Robinson Cano caught on a hop. He tossed it to shortstop Jayson Nix for the forceout.

Nick Markakis, thinking the ball was going to be caught by Cano, got caught in a rundown between second and third base.

Third baseman Kevin Youkilis tagged Markakis and then threw to first baseman Lyle Overbay when Machado ranged too far off first. Overbay then threw to Cano, who tagged Machado.

"That's one of the coolest things I've ever had on the field," Youkilis said. "You don't see one written up like that. It was special. This game we play, it's one of these games where it's a job and it's a grind at times. But when stuff like that happens, you feel like you're back playing Little League again."
