Minaya Credits Terrasas For Discovering Mets' Harvey

Matt Harvey has taken the New York Mets by storm with three wins and a sub-1.00 ERA so far this season.

Omar Minaya, who was general manager of the Mets when the team drafted the right-hander, gives credit to one of the team's scouts.

"Rudy Terrasas (a Mets scout who was the scouting director at the time, overseeing the draft) was the one who brought him to my attention. Rudy deserves a lot of the credit for this one," Minaya said.

"Harvey wasn't a guy who was on a lot of people's lists at first, because his sophomore year (at UNC) wasn't great. What I saw was your classic power pitcher."

New York took Harvey with a first-round pick in 2010.

"My first impression was that this was a big, strong kid who was built for innings." Terrasas said. "And then when you saw what came out of his hand, you put it all together and thought, boy this is a pretty good-looking pitcher. He had a plus fastball and plus secondary pitches. The good ones are going to be more polished, and that was the case with Matt.

"The other thing that impressed me was Matt's demeanor on the mound. He didn't let anything bother him; he had a game plan, and he stuck with it."
