The Kansas City Royals are believed to be the front-runners to sign Italian shortstop Marten Gasparini.
Gasparini, who turns 16 later this month, is expected to sign the biggest contract ever for a European amateur player.
He will be eligible to sign when the 2013-14 international signing period opens on July 2 and Gasparini will likely net a bonus north of $1 million.
