Brewers Have To Decide Between Gennett, Weeks At Second

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Fri Sep 13, 2013 11:46 am

The Milwaukee Brewers will have a decision to make at second base heading into the offseason.

They could stick with rookie Scooter Gennett, who has excelled since Rickie Weeks was injured, or give Weeks a chance to win the job back given his $11 million salary for 2014.

"That's a good thing," Gordon Ash said when asked about Gennett creating a battle at the position.

"I think everyone was convinced (Gennett would hit) because he has hit all the way along (through the minors)," Ash added. "It was how much his defense improved. I think, as we've seen, it's way above average -- the range that he shows and the strength that he has."

In 52 games, Gennett is hitting .344/.382/.545 with six home runs and 18 RBIs in 2013.

Prior to his injury, Weeks was hitting .209/.306/.357 with 10 home runs and 24 RBIs in 104 games.
