Much has been made of an apparent green glob inside the glove of Jon Lester during his Game 1 start against the St. Louis Cardinals.
A screen capture of Lester's glove has gone viral and a minor leaguer in the Cardinals organization kick-started speculation with a tweet on Wednesday night.
Major League Baseball has reviewed the photos and deemed them a non-issue, but hasn't put the story to rest.
"Obviously Major League Baseball has reviewed the pictures," John Farrell said. "They've issued their statement and basically determined this to be a closed case. The Cardinals have responded to what's been out there. And from my perspective, if you know Jon Lester, he sweats like a pig and he needs resin. And you know what, he keeps it in his glove. Other guys will keep it on their arm. Other guys will keep it on their pant leg."
Lester told members of the media that it was simply rosin in his glove.
Farrell reiterated that Lester uses rosin and it wasn't bullfrog sunscreen or anything else.
"Yes," he said. "And the one thing that our umpires are very well aware of and looking for, to enforce the rules -- having been Jon Lester's pitching coach, and you know that, he's got resin that he uses, and he happens to put it inside his glove. Categorically, yeah, that's what he used."
