The New York Yankees began their pursuit of Masahiro Tanaka on the first day Major League clubs were allowed to start negotiating, according to a source.
The Yankees have already been in contact with Casey Close, the agent who will be representing Tanaka. Close has long been the agent for Derek Jeter.
New York was expected to be aggressive in looking to sign Tanaka, who is expected to command a contract north of $100 million.
