The Cincinnati Reds would like to sign Homer Bailey to a long-term deal, but that may be easier said than done.
Bailey, 27, is third-year arbitration eligible and can become a first-time free agent after the 2014 season.
"He would be probably the one guy that's going to be the most difficult because of how well he's done and where he's at in this service class," general manager Walt Jocketty said. "Young pitchers are getting quite a bit."
