Trade Puts Pressure On Peter Bourjos To Perform

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Wed Mar 27, 2013 8:34 pm

The Angels traded Vernon Wells to the Yankees earlier this week, clearing the way for Peter Bourjos to have a position over the course of the season.

Los Angeles allowed Torii Hunter to leave as a free agent this winter, opening a spot for Bourjos. Other moves were then made, Josh Hamilton was signed and Kendrys Morales traded, to put the status of Bourjos in-and-out of the starting lineup.

With Wells gone, there are no more threats to Bourjos.

"Getting regular playing time will be huge," Bourjos said. "You don't have the struggles in your mind of saying, 'I've got to get a hit this at-bat or I might not play tomorrow.' Knowing you're in the lineup day in and day out, you can relax and play the game."

Bourjos had that security in 2011, when he hit .271 with 12 home runs, 11 triples, 26 doubles, 72 runs and 22 stolen bases in 147 games and played spectacular defense.

The Angels OF defense is going to be something special this year.
