Oakland Athletics outfielder Yoenis Cespedes has landed on the disabled list with a strained muscle in his left hand.
Cespedes sustained the injury attempting to slide into second base at the end of the eighth inning of the A's 4-3 win over the Detroit Tigers in 12 innings.
"He either slipped or caught the back of his spike in the ground," A's manager Bob Melvin said. "That's why he started rolling. He's an aggressive guy who goes into bases hard."
An MRI taken Saturday morning revealed no structural damage to Cespedes' hand.
"We're not looking at surgery, so in that regard we're fortunate," Melvin said. "We want to make sure he is 100 percent healthy when he gets back."
