Junichi Tazawa will serve as the closer for the Boston Red Sox as their two other options heal.
The Red Sox are down two relievers with Andrew Bailey (biceps) and Joel Hanrahan (forearm) sidelined due to injury.
John Farrell had said that Tazawa and Koji Uehara could share the role, but the manager said Tuesday he'd prefer to keep Uehara in the eighth-inning role.
"The one thing I like with Koji is you're going to get those pinch-hit left-handers in the eighth inning, and he's so effective against lefties," Farrell said. "That's where you might get a little bit of that gamesmanship or the matchup capability in the eighth inning."
