Mariners, Montero Discussed Extension Before Biogenesis, Demotion

The Mariners discussed a long-term contract extension with Jesus Montero before he was linked to Biogenesis and possible performance-enhancing drug use.
Nothing came of the conversations and Seattle demoted Montero to Triple-A this week.
In 29 games, Montero is hitting .208/.264/.327 with nearly three times as many strikeouts as walks.
