Jake Peavy is having issues breathing and sleeping because of his fractured left rib.
For that reason, he has not been cleared to start a conditioning program that Peavy hopes to receive clearance for by the end of the week.
"The biggest thing is any kind of heavy breathing in my diaphragm expanding; we're trying to stay away from that," Peavy said. "My life has been pretty easy as far as physical activity goes these past few weeks. It's been as uneasy as can be when the team is going the way it's going and you can't be a factor."
Peavy hasn't pitched since June 4.
"It's a funky injury and tough to miss time when you've got an injury like this that you really can't explain," Peavy said. "It's just a tough, tough deal.''
Peavy believes he is close to being able to ride a stationary bicycle and anticipates he'll undergo an MRI by the end of the week to assess the healing.
