The Red Sox made a formal extension offer to Dustin Pedroia and his New York-based agents over the All-Star break, according to a source.
It has been reported that the deal could be in the $100 million range with an average of more than $20 million per season. That would make Pedroia the highest-paid middle infielder in baseball.
Pedroia said after Boston's 4-2 win over the Yankees on Friday night that he had nothing to say about the status of the negotiations.
