Bedard Took Himself Out Of No-Hitter

Erik Bedard took himself out of what could have been the first no-hitter of his lengthy career on Saturday against the Mariners.


Bedard hadn't allowed a hit into the seventh inning was he asked out. He had 10 strikeouts, five walks and one earned run on 109 pitches.


"I asked him, 'Are you sure?' And he said, 'I'm done,'" Bo Porter said.


"I've had three shoulder surgeries," Bedard explained. "I'm not going over 110 [pitches]. I'd rather pitch a couple more years than face another batter."
