Showalter: Yankees Would Benefit From A-Rod's Ban

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Thu Aug 1, 2013 4:16 pm

The way manager Buck Showalter sees it, Alex Rodriguez's possible suspension would mean that the Yankees would end up with Orioles catcher Matt Wieters in two years, according to an ESPN.com report.

If Rodriguez is suspended for all of next season, the Yankees would not have to pay his $25M salary for 2014. The unpaid money would not count against the luxury tax and revenue sharing, which would make it much easier for the Yankees to fall under Hal Steinbrenner's goal of a $189M payroll for 2014.

Unless the team was giving him the drugs why should they be held accountable. The punishment is for the player not the organization.
