Galvis May Not Have Spot As Everyday Player

Freddy Galvis may be facing a crossroads at his career with the Philadelphia Phillies.


Chase Utley and Jimmy Rollins are both likely to remain with the club through the 2015 season, creating a logjam with the 24-year-old infielder behind both veterans.


Galvis started the 2013 season with the Phillies, but was sent to Triple-A Lehigh Valley when Utley returned from the disabled list. He is unlikely to spend a lot of time in the minor leagues next season.


Ryne Sandberg believes his defense make him a valuable bench player.


"It's all hypothetical on how he'd be used, on how the bench would be used," Sandberg said "[But] I think with the long season, I believe you need the best quality bench players you can have. For me, he fits the mold for all he can do on the field, defensively, along with constant progress and work with his batting."


Sandberg said Galvis still needs to "figure out his role" on the offensive side of the game
