The Minnesota Twins have shut down Joe Mauer in the wake of a concussion suffered on Aug. 19.
Mauer had been making progress recently and insisted that he wanted to return to the field before the season ended. However, Terry Ryan said Monday that with just a week left in the season it simply doesn't make sense to back Mauer back.
