Rays Expected To Shop David Price

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Fri Sep 27, 2013 12:15 pm

The Tampa Bay Rays are expected to shop David Price this winter.

They can't afford to sign Price long-term and this offseason he will be two years away from free agency.

Price posted a 2.57 ERA over his final 17 starts in 2013. He is aware of the situation, but loves pitching for Tampa Bay.

"I love it here," he said. "Everybody in our organization knows that. The fan base knows it."

Rays are crazy to do that. This guy is a stud and they're trying to trade him away. Crazy. Shop guys such as Joyce, Escobar (had a good year; might have some trade value) and Matt Moore.

Its because they cant afford him.

No surpise here, and they should get a nice haul.

Which is why they should try to ship other guys to free up money.

No one else on their team makes that much. They'd have to trade a lot of players to free up the cash. And no one else is expected to make as much as Price is anytime soon.

considering they're near rebuilding, price would bring them a boat load of prospects and lower their payroll. good move.

They're not rebuilding, this is their homeostasis. Get rid of expensive commodities and acquire cheap ones. They just turned 2 expensive years of Shields, and a relief pitcher, into ~7 years apiece of Wil Myers and Jake Odorizzi.

Its such a damn shame that Rays can't afford to keep their own home grown talent seriously that's one team that really needs to move to Orlando in my opinion and get a new stadium finally seriously Tampa hasn't embraced them at all. With that front office and making the playoffs nearly every year for the past 6 years already they really deserve a legit fan base and stadium that will embrace them.
