The city of Atlanta says it will demolish Turner Field in 2017 when the Braves move to Cobb County.
It was announced earlier this week that the Braves would leave for a new ballpark closer to the suburbs.
"The bottom line is that the city was presented with a choice, and that choice was encumbering between $150 million to $250 million in debt and not having money to do anything else," Atlanta mayor Kasim Reed said, referring to the city's share of costs for desired improvements at Turner Field.
