Jacoby Ellsbury will be one of the most popular players on the free agent market this winter and Carl Crawford's seven-year, $142 million deal is becoming the benchmark in talks.
Scott Boras mentioned Crawford's deal, which was signed in 2010 with the Boston Red Sox, to one interested team.
"Carl Crawford [who signed for $142 million over seven years in 2010] lives. And Jayson Werth signed for seven years (and $126 million) at age 32," Boras said recently when a team inquired.
The Seattle Mariners, Washington Nationals, New York Yankees and incumbent Red Sox have been linked to Ellsbury.
