Scherzer Open To Extension With Tigers
Max Scherzer is open to a contract extension with the Detroit Tigers, according to agent Scott Boras.
Scherzer, who was named the American League Cy Young winner on Wednesday night, will be eligible for free agency after the 2014 season.
Boras isn't known for negotiating long-term extensions with clients nearing free agency, but said Scherzer is keeping an open mind.
"They know Max likes it there," Boras said. "We would have to sit down and talk about their plans for the future. But when you have a player who likes playing where he's playing and an ownership that has been what Mike Ilitch has been in Detroit, it's certainly something we would listen to."
