Reds Think Votto Draws Too Many Walks

The Cincinnati Reds are trying to get Joey Votto to be more aggressive at the plate.


Votto walked a Major League-leading 135 times this past season, the highest non-Barry Bonds total since Brian Giles drew the same number of free passes in 2002. Votto has led the NL in walks in each of the last three seasons.


However, he had just 73 RBI in 2013 despite hitting .291 with runners in scoring position.

Congratulations Reds. Your best player happens to possess a positive skill and you've turned it into a negative!

I wonder if the Reds realize that they were 3rd in the NL in runs scored despite being league average in both Batting Average and Slugging?
