The Tampa Bay Rays have agreed to trade Jose Lobaton to the Washington Nationals in exchange for right-hander Nathan Karns, according to a source.
The clubs have not yet announced the deal, which has been discussed over recent days.
Tampa Bay has been considering dealing Lobaton since the Rays acquired catcher Ryan Hanigan from the Cincinnati Reds.
Karns, 26, made his Major League debut last season in Washington, allowing 10 earned runs and 17 hits over three starts that spanned 12 innings.
