Brendan Ryan, who will serve as Derek Jeter's backup at shortstop this season, is prepared to hear plenty of boos from New York Yankees fans.
Jeter announced last week that the 2014 season will be his last.
"Embrace the boos," Ryan said.
Ryan, 31, is expected to receive a share of the playing time when Jeter is out of the lineup.
"I'm going to get booed regardless," Ryan said. "I've been booed before. Who cares? If I'm getting high-fives from my teammates, I'm doing something right and that's what matters. Hopefully, the fans will come around after that."
