Cabrera Agrees To $292M Extension With Tigers

The Detroit Tigers have agreed to terms with Miguel Cabrera on a new 10-year contract extension worth $292 million, according to a source.

The new deal covers the two years remaining on Cabrera's current contract and eight additional seasons. It is expected to become official later this week when Cabrera is able to complete a physical.

The agreement also includes two vesting options worth $30 million apiece for years 11 and 12 that could bring the total of the deal to $352 million, according to multiple reports.

Long commitment and a lot of money. However, with a player like Cabrera, money is no issue. This is a great move for Tiger's baseball, excited to see him in that uniform for another 10+ years.

He's meant so much to the Tigers that they really had no choice but to sign him to an extension and live with whatever consequences his contract may cause down the road.

dumbest move ever. he was already under contract for 2 more year right. he will be 32 and on the down swing of his career then. Paying guys for what they have already done is not smart business, pay for what they will do.
