Carl Crawford badly sprained his left ankle chasing down a double in the eighth inning of Tuesday night's game against the Cincinnati Reds.
Crawford was fitted with a walking boot and said the Los Angeles Dodgers would place him on the disabled list.
"It didn't look good, obviously," Don Mattingly said. "The video didn't look good; [trainer] Stan [Conte] didn't sound good. We always say we'll wait until tomorrow to see, but it didn't look very good."
