The Rays have placed catcher Ryan Hanigan on the 15-day disabled list with a strained muscle on his left side.
The move was made before Friday's game at Minnesota.
The Rays selected catcher Curt Casali from Triple-A Durham to fill in and back up Jose Molina. The 25-year-old Casali was in the lineup against the Twins on Friday, making his major league debut. He singled in his first at-bat.
