Yankees Acquire Headley From Padres

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Tue Jul 22, 2014 5:34 pm

The New York Yankees have acquired Chase Headley from the San Diego Padres, according to a report.

Neither team has confirmed the deal, but New York is expected to send Yangervis Solarte and right-hander Rafael De Paula to San Diego.

The Yankees will receive $1 million from the Padres to offset the remainder of Headley's contract.

Another weak hitter (Headley) to join the club. Ol man Steinbrenner rolling in his grave...I hate Arod but cant wait to get him back cause even off the roids he can hit better than this crew..Steinbrenners should sell the team to someone that will pay more attention to what is happening...

Let's see which Headley the Yankees get. Headley did hit 31 homers and drove in 115 runs in 2012 in arguably the most pitcher friendly park in the majors (Petco Park) and he's a strong defensive player. He's also only 30 years old which makes him a youngster compared to most of the other players the Yankees have on the team. He'll probably be classified a Type B free agent so if he signs with another team the Yankees will get an extra draft pick between the 1st and 2nd rounds of the 2015 draft which should minimally replace the lose of De Paula. If not they can probably bring him back for a 2 year deal which wouldn't be tagging another long term deal to this team.
