The Detroit Tigers have declined Joe Nathan's 2016 option.
Nathan has a $1 million buyout on his deal that Detroit will have to pay.
The 40-year-old sustained an elbow injury in April that ended his 2015 season, a torn ulnar collateral ligament and a flexor pronator tear in his right arm.
