Odd Mechanical Flaw Leading To Shelby Miller's Struggles

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Fri Apr 22, 2016 6:46 pm

Shelby Miller has struggled mightily in his first four starts with the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Arizona traded a haul of young players to Atlanta for Miller this offseason. He has responded with a 8.59 ERA, 10 strikeouts and 11 walks in 14.2 innings.

Miller has had issues with his mechanics, specifically with his follow through, which has led to him hitting his pitching hand on the ground after releasing the pitch. He left his previous start with cuts on his hand and on Thursday the same thing happened.

Chip Hale said he'd never seen anything like it, not for a pitcher with an over-the-top delivery.

"He's staying more upright," Hale said. "It's just something he's been working on and he was doing a really good job of that in his pen."
