Just three months after signing him to a five-year, $25.5 million contract extension, the St. Louis Cardinals have demoted Kolten Wong to Triple-A Memphis.
The move coincides with Jhonny Peralta set to come off the disabled list on Tuesday. Peralta had surgery in March to repair ligament damage to his left thumb.
Wong, 25, is batting .222 with a .571 OPS and six errors this season.
"The key is to get everyday at bats," John Mozeliak said. "And given our current roster it would be hard to do."
