Athletics catcher Bruce Maxwell became the first Major League Baseball player to kneel during the national anthem when he did so prior to Saturday night's 1-0 home victory against the Rangers.
Maxwell had his hand over his heart while facing the flag as the anthem was played. Teammate Mark Canha placed his hand on Maxwell's shoulder in a show of support.
