Yankees Could Trade Dellin Betances, Adam Warren

TThe New York Yankees will attempt to drop their payroll below the $197 million luxury tax threshold next season. Hal Steinbrenner has demanded it and Brian Cashman publicly vowed to make it happen.

The Yankees could trade Dellin Betances and Adam Warren to clear salary.

Betances and Warren combined for 117 innings and a 2.62 ERA, but the emergence of Chad Green and the acquisitions of Tommy Kahnle and David Robertson make them more expendable. 

MLB Trade Rumors projected Betances’ 2018 salary at $4.4 million and Warren’s at $3.1 million.

Because Robertson is the far superior pitcher, and at the end of the day, this team is still about winning. Your point is well noted, as Betances is a fireballer who makes a fraction of the money Robertson does, but he's a developing player who has yet to turn the corner on his struggles. On the Yanks DB is largely redundant, and at his age, ability and paltry contract is a much, much better trade chip.
