Dodgers Paying Nearly $100M To Players Not On World Series Roster

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Wed Oct 25, 2017 12:19 pm

A number of Major League clubs have a smaller active payroll than what the Los Angeles Dodgers are paying in dead money this postseason.

They paid Carl Crawford $21 million not to play this year, while Adrian Gonzalez has made $21.5 million and isn't even traveling with the team after struggling with injuries.

Scott Kazmir carried a $16 million salary and hasn't pitched an inning in 2017. Andre Ethier was paid $17.5 million, but totaled just 34 at-bats and hasn't appeared in the playoffs.

The Dodgers are also paying the following players not to play for them: $5 million to Alexander Guerrero, $4.67 million to Hector Olivera, $4 million to Erisbel Arriebarrena, $3.5 million to Matt Kemp, $1.9 million to Sergio Romo, $1.3 million to Dian Toscano and $3.5 million to prospect Yasiel Sierra.

That brings the total to $62 million if you don't count Ethier and Gonzalez, who actually did play at some point in 2017, or $101 million if you include them as dead money since they haven't made an impact or played in the postseason.
