Pitcher Skips MLB Draft, Signs $7M Deal In Japan

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Wed May 22, 2019 11:45 am

Carter Stewart has agreed to a six-year, $7 million contract with the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks of the Japanese Pacific League, according to sources.

The Atlanta Braves drafted Stewart with the No. 8 pick in 2018 out of high school. He did not sign after the Braves reduced their signing-bonus offer due to an alleged injury. He was expected to be taken in the early second round in next month\'s draft.

Stewart is guaranteed significantly more money by signing in Japan. He could theoretically join the Major Leagues as a 25-year-old free agent.

He is represented by Scott Boras.
