The New York Yankees have already exceeded the first two luxury-tax thresholds of $206 and $226 million, but Hal Steinbrenner says ownership is willing to go even further.
In order to add pitching, the Yankees may need to cross the $246 million level -- which carries the harshest penalties.
\"If I really felt we needed that deal that takes us over the top, then yes, I would,\" Steinbrenner said. \"But we still have a decent amount of cushion. I’m not concerned about that. It’s a decent cushion.\"
Exceeding the third luxury-tax threshold would come with a 42.5 percent tax on their overages and cause their highest 2020 Draft pick to drop 10 spots.
