Recap: Yadier Molina Lifts Cardinals With Walk-Off Sacrifice Fly

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Tue Oct 8, 2019 12:20 am

The St. Louis Cardinals are trying to make a deep playoff run with largely a new cast of characters, but an old hero lifted them to a Game 4 win over the Atlanta Braves on Monday afternoon.

Yadier Molina hit a walk-off sacrifice fly in the 10th inning, scoring Kolten Wong, to give the Cardinals a 5-4 victory at Busch Stadium.

The at-bat was Molina\'s second clutch moment of the game. He had an RBI single in the eighth that tied the game up and put the Cardinals in position to extend their season.

The Cardinals jumped out to a 2-0 lead thanks to solo home runs by Paul Goldschmidt and Marcell Ozuna in the first inning. After an Ozzie Albies sacrifice fly in the third, Ozuna went deep again in the fourth.

Things then got messy in the fifth. Dansby Swanson doubled, then advanced to third on a passed ball by Molina. He then scored on a throwing error by Matt Carpenter, which allowed Adam Duvall to reach first base. After Ronald Acuna, Jr. lined out, Albies hit a two-run home run to give Atlanta a 4-3 lead. All of the runs scored in the inning were unearned.

The deciding fifth game will be Wednesday with Jack Flaherty and Mike Foltynewicz on the mound.
