The Minnesota Twins averaged nearly six runs per game during a regular season in which they set the Major League home run record.
That didn\'t matter in the playoffs as the New York Yankees completed a sweep of the Twins on Monday night. Minnesota scored a total of seven runs over 27 innings in the ALDS.
Looking to close out the series on the road, Gleyber Torres got the scoring started with a solo home run in the second. The Yankees got RBI singles from Brett Gardner and Didi Gregorius to take a 3-0 lead before the Twins finally got on the board in the bottom of the eighth with a home run from Eddie Rosario.
That would be all for Minnesota as New York added two runs in the ninth for a 5-1 victory.
Luis Severino, who pitched all of 12 innings this season due to injury, was strong over four with four strikeouts and great situational pitching out of jams. Minnesota left 11 men on base and went 1-12 with runners in scoring position.
The Yankees have won 13 consecutive playoff games against the Twins. They will begin the ALCS on Sunday, either at the Houston Astros or home against the Tampa Bay Rays.
