Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Wed Oct 23, 2019 2:26 pm

The Washington Nationals took Game 1 of the World Series over the Houston Astros on Tuesday night and handed Gerrit Cole a loss for the first time since May in the process.

The National League Champions tagged Cole for five runs over seven innings, scoring on him in three innings. Over 104 pitches, Cole struck out six and walked one.

Meanwhile, Max Scherzer stuck out seven over five innings. He allowed two runs on five hits.

With the Astros trailing 5-2 heading into the final third of the game, George Springer took things into his own hands. He homered in the seventh and notched an RBI double in the eighth to bring the club to within a run. With Springer on second and one out, Jose Altuve and Michael Brantley both lined out.

Houston went down 1-2-3 in the bottom of the ninth.

Cole had been on a 19-game winning streak that stretched back 25 starts.

Game 2 will feature Stephen Strasburg against Justin Verlander.
