Don Larsen Dead At 90

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Thu Jan 2, 2020 12:15 pm

Don Larsen, the only pitcher in Major League history to pitch a perfect game in the World Series, has died at 90.

Larsen died of esophageal cancer in hospice care in Hayden, Idaho.

The journeyman pitcher was 81-91 in his career and never won more than 11 games in a season. However, the New York Yankees turned to him to start Game 5 of the World Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1956.

The lanky right-hander struck out seven, needed just 97 pitches to tame the Dodgers and went to three balls on a batter only once -- against Pee Wee Reese in the first inning.
