MLB To Judge: Cheating Attempts Part Of Sports

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Tue Feb 25, 2020 12:43 pm

Major League Baseball has told a federal judge that attempts at cheating are a part of sports.

MLB is urging the judge to dismiss a lawsuit by fantasy contestants.

Five men sued MLB, MLB Advanced Media, the Houston Astros and Boston Red Sox in federal court in Manhattan, claiming fraud, violation of consumer protection laws, negligence, unjust enrichment and deceptive trade practices by teams that violated MLB\'s rules against the use of electronics to steal catchers\' signs.

The five said they participated in DraftKings fantasy baseball contests.

\"Rules violations -- large and small, intentional and unintentional, technical and game-changing -- are a never-ending source of sports television, talk radio, web and elevator commentary by sports pundits and fans alike,\" MLB said Friday in papers submitted to U.S. District Judge Jed Rakoff.

\"And fans\' general awareness of the potential for infractions is underscored in this case by the fact that clubs were publicly disciplined for electronic sign-stealing violations during the 2017 regular season.\"

Manford's a piece of crap, completely out of touch with reality. Cheating should not be part of sports. That's the whole point of this entire thing. It kills the credibility of the game and the fact that he's not punishing the players responsible and barely even investigating 2019 is a joke. He's just trying to save face right now. It's against his interests for his investigation to find more. Even if it does, it won't.

Durrrr, cheating's okay because people have always tried to do it. The idea is to hold people accountable for their actions. It's like saying that murder has always been a part of society. What a dumbass.

Only Jesus was perfect. Adam cheated. We all cheat in some form.

MLB is really going the extra mile here on their "it's no big deal, everybody does it" explanation.

Nope, Manfred's 100% right. "If you ain't cheating, you ain't trying". And if you get caught cheating, you get punished. But you can't punish an entire team. The FO lost their jobs. What would you like them to do now, forfeit the season? I'm guessing the sponsors, advertisers, fans, and TV networks would be against that?

And you're using the analogy wrong. Murder has always been a part of society... so all these people who think the world should just hold hands and sing kumbayah need to get their heads out of their butts.

No, you're using it wrong I'm talking about holding people accountable for actions. If 4 people are together in a car and one of them commits murder while he's with them, all 4 are held accountable and that does not change because "murder has always been part of society." Any lawyer that argued that would be laughed out of the courtroom.

Astros should vacate the title and all involved players should be suspended. I know Manfred is scared to do it and runs the MLB like a paranoid idiot do nothing but suckling on the owners teets.

And anybody that uses the phrase, "If you aren't cheating, you aren't trying" is a scumbag with no integrity.
